Because Transparency and Fairness Matter
At MCA, we believe competitors deserve clear answers and a fair shot. Below is our official FAQ, appeals, and protest process — designed to protect the integrity of every event.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
🔎 How do I know which class I belong in?
- Classes are based on system design, installation complexity, and fabrication — not cost or brand.
- If you’re unsure, contact MCA or the event Head Judge before competing.
- Pro Tip: You may always choose to compete in a higher class, but not lower.
🔎 Can I see my scores?
✅ Yes. MCA is fully transparent — individual scores and final placements are published after every event.
🔎 How does MCA ensure fair judging?
- All judges are trained under ICA’s standards
- Judges focus solely on sound — no install bias
- Scoring with clear, published criteria
- Track Notes ensure judges and competitors are aligned on musical expectations
🔎 What happens if there’s a tie?
Tie-breaker priority:
- Tonal Accuracy
- Spectral Balance, Dynamics, Listening Enjoyment (combined)
- Staging and Imaging
- Realism
🛠 Appeals & Protest Process
✅ What Can Be Appealed?
- Scoring math errors
- Class placement mistakes
- Violation of published rules or procedures
- Potential judge conflict of interest (must be raised BEFORE judging begins)
Subjective scores (e.g., “I disagree with 8/10 on dynamics”) are not grounds for appeal.
✅ How Do I File an Appeal or Protest?
- Notify the Event Organizer or Head Judge onsite — before awards are finalized if possible.
- Written appeal required — must include:
- Specific rule or procedure violated
- Clear reasoning — “I disagree” is not valid
- $50 Protest Fee (refundable if protest is upheld)
✅ What Happens Next?
- Head Judge and Regional Director review the appeal
- If necessary, consult the judging panel
- Decision made same day when possible — final, binding
- If protest is upheld, fee refunded and correction made
- If denied, fee supports the event
⚖ Our Commitment to Competitors
